Arsenal's 2008-10 seasons were marked by near-misses and frustration. In 2008-09, they finished 4th in the Premier League but were eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals by Manchester United. The following season, 2009-10, saw a similarly competitive campaign, with Arsenal finishing 3rd in the league and again falling short in key competitions. They were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals and lost in the FA Cup to a lower-league team. Despite strong individual performances, particularly from Cesc Fàbregas and Robin van Persie.
